Elsa Arellano is FLA-OC’s outstanding Novice Teacher of the Year (pictured below with FLA-OC President Nadine Elwood, at the 2006 Share Fair)! Take a look. Here’s what her Orange High School colleague, Tracy Peters writes:

“Elsa is in her third semester of teaching Spanish 2 and 3 at Orange High School while serving as the Key Club Advisor and the Cheerleading Advisor. She is very active at Orange. The students always ask her to be a judge or participant in the pep assemblies, chaperone for Winter Formal, [and] School Safety Committee.

“Elsa attended Spanish camp this year and, although it was her first year going, she was eager to help out and jumped right in to help with the errands that go along with organizing camp. She showed that she was not only energetic, but also responsible.

“Elsa also was key in organizing Orange High School’s Modern Language Department’s Presentation for Orange Blossom Festival/Open House this year. She prepared the program and taught her students dances to liven up their singing performances for the parents. The parents were amazed that their students actually sang and danced in Spanish in front of a crowd. The papel picado decorations her students made added to the ambiance. Her department relied upon Elsa’s encouragement to make the presentation a success.

“Elsa Arellano is a team player and is willing to share ideas yet is also open to suggestions. She is not afraid to try new things. Her enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work make her an excellent teacher. I had the opportunity to see some of her lessons and her students were engaged and actively learning with the “cinquain” poems, and fashion shows. She displays student work and her classroom is attractively decorated with cultural artifacts and current events. She keeps me up-to-date by letting me know about upcoming concerts, cultural events in the community, and helping me out with the newest technology.”
